1. Funding & Career Opportunities

France: Jean d’Alembert International Fellowship - The Paris-Saclay Excellence Initiative aims to enable highly qualified foreign scientists to spend long periods of time (from 6 to 12 months) in one of the laboratories within its perimeter. Deadline 31 March 2017.

France: PRESTIGE Postdoc programme. Mobility schemes aimed at fostering the international mobility of post-doc researchers complying with the Marie Curie Actions mobility rules. Call open all year long with four cut-off dates. The next ones are: 31 March 2017 and 30 June 2017.

Germany: PhD at Berlin Mathematical School - Doctoral programme in mathematical research and graduate education. Late application deadline (limited number of scholarships available): 1 April 2017.

Germany: Doctoral scholarships from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation - The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom supports international doctoral students in all disciplines. The next closing date for applications is 30 April 2017.

Germany: Anneliese Maier Research Award - Through its Anneliese Maier Research Award, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation honours international academics in the humanities and social sciences. The closing date for nominations is 30 April 2017.

United Kingdom: International Research Workshops under Researchers Links and Newton Fund. Early-career researcher based in the UK or  partner country can apply for a grant to participate. Various deadlines.

In China

Understanding Science: "Exploring March" - On Tuesday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Jérémie Lasue from Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie (IRAP/OMP) in Toulouse, France will give a talk entitled "Exploring Mars.Venue: Bridge Café: 8-12 Huaqing Jiayuan, Chengfu Lu, Haidian District (Beijing).

Social mobility in rural China: a study of entrepreneurs in Taiqian County: Tsinghua University Sino-French Research Centre and the Sociology Departement of Tsinghua University will be hosting a presentation of Camille Boullenois, with Professor Liu Jingming (Professor of sociology at Tsinghua University) at Tsinghua University (Beijing), Thursday 9 March 2017  from 14:00-16:00.

Seminar: "China’s economic prospects: OECD analysis and recommendations": Date: 24 March 2017, 16:00-18:00. Venue:Room Segalen Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao 25/F, Admiralty Centre Tower II, 18 Harcourt Road (MTR Admiralty Station, exit A) (Hong Kong).

Malta EU Presidency MSCA 2017 Conference: Mobility takes research further. The overall objective of the conference is to discuss and reflect on the MSCAs with a special focus on ‘Mobility takes research further’. The objectives of the event will be achieved via the sharing of best practices and debates on past and ongoing experiences. 11-12 May 2012. Deadline for registration 29 March 2017.

12th ITS European Congress - ITS Beyond Borders - 19-22 June 2017, Strasbourg, France, Strasbourg Convention Centre. The 12th ITS European Congress will take place from 19 to 22 June 2017 in Strasbourg. Under the theme “ITS Beyond Borders”, the Congress will focus on the people, intelligent mobility users, as every day hundreds of thousands of them are crossing the French-German border to live their daily lives.

3. News

Results of the MarcoPolo Project presented at Tsinghua University. Within the EU-funded projects MarcoPolo and Panda (2014-2017), Chinese and European institutes have worked together on a satellite-based air quality forecast and monitoring service. Results of the MarcoPolo project have been presented during a user workshop at Tsinghua University in Beijing on 1 and 2 March. Satellite observations are used to derive up-to-date emissions for China, which in turn are used in air quality modeling and forecasting. Seven models are combined in an ensemble forecast system providing accurate air quality information for China. 

Overseas NGOs’ online registration handbook (Version 1.0) - In order to facilitate the registration process for overseas NGOs, China Development Brief have created this online registration system where the relevant documentation can be filled in and returned online. 

ERC funds 133 innovations arising from frontier research. Hundred thirty-three ERC grantees are bringing the results of their frontier research closer to the market thanks to Proof of Concept grants, awarded in three rounds of competition in 2016. The winners of the last round have been announced today. They will receive top-up funding to explore the innovation potential of their ERC-funded discoveries.
