Vitae Conference on realizing the potential of researchers
Vitae events to support researchers
Vitae works to meet society’s need for high-level skills and innovation.
is dedicated to realising the potential of researchers through transforming their professional and career development.
We are an international programme led and managed by CRAC, a not-for-profit registered UK charity dedicated to active career learning and development. Working in the UK since 1968, when we ran our first project to support transitions of doctoral researchers to industry, Vitae has great expertise at enhancing the skills and career impact of researchers locally, within a global context.
Much of our work has been funded by the UK Research Councils and we have played a key role in the UK drives for high-level skills, innovation and world-class researchers.
Between 2013 and 2015 we wereby Research Councils UK (RCUK) and UK HE funding bodies: Department for Employment and Learning (DELNI), Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE), Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC).
We have launched our membership programme in January 2015. We nowall over the world in partnership with researchers, higher education institutions, research organisations, research funders and other organisations with a stake in realising the potential of researchers.
Our aims are to:
- build human capital by influencing the development and implementation of effective policy relating to researcher development
- enhance higher education provision to train and develop researchers
- empower researchers to make an impact in their careers
- evidence the impact of professional and career development support for researchers
What we do
Vitae brings together all those with a stake in realising the potential of researchers. We establish partnerships to champion the needs of researchers and demonstrate their impact on economies and society. Together we develop policy and practice to effect real and lasting change. We provide online information, advice and resources for higher education institutions and researchers on professional development and careers.
How we are structured
- Vitae External Advisory Board

We also work with volunteer steering or advisory groups, with other organisations through partnerships and Memoranda of Understanding and informally with networks based around specific topics and groupings.
